    History of the Carlisle Holy Cross Lutheran Church is extracted from the The History of Warren County, Iowa, compiled by the Warren County Genealogical Society, Curtis Media Corp., Dallas, Texas, 1987, p.167.

    In 1961 families gathered to worship in the American Legion building in Carlisle until 1962 when land was purchased to begin building a Lutheran Church in Carlisle. The Holy Cross Lutheran church was finished and dedicated by 1964 with a congregation of over 100 parishioners. Christian education is emphasized with Sunday school, Bible school, adult Bible classes, and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

    The pastorates in the church’s history are: Rev. Herbert BORCHELT, 1963-1968; Rev. Robert BAILEY, 1968-1972; Rev. Robert BACKHUS, 1973-1975, Rev. Ronald WEIDLER 1976-1980; Rev. William SCHROEDER 1980-1982; Rev. Carl GAUSMAN, 1983- present [1987].
